20 Sep 2008 | Hong Kong | Day 1

Day 1 - 20 Sept 2008
(1 day to ayu!)

another early flight~ kossy stayed over my place and we all woke up at 3.30am to get ready. my luggage is huge.. i think i actually brought a lot of useless things cos i didn't expect HK to be SO HOT! mummy is also coming along cos she booked the almost-same-time flight to phnom penh. we dragged our luggage downstairs to flag a cab at 4.15am. :| luckily a cab came quite quickly.. no long waiting... after reaching the airport, we checked in and walked around abit, looking at perfume and alcohol and had my first encounter with Toastbox. i tried the peanut butter thick toast. it was quite nice but i think it wld have been nicer if it was the Skippy roasted honey nut peanut butter~ :x

egg-cited!waiting to board the plane~

ready for take-off!

so its up up and away! we checked out this Jet magazine in the plane andthey had a page dedicated to teach passengers some languages spoken in the asia countries... included thai, chinese, vietnam(-ese)?, cantonese, etc etc.. we learnt a few "gong dong wah" from there... LOL. "chee saw hai binn douuu" + "tek si chaim hai binn douuu", etc. there was one which taught us how to say "do you speak english". it was damn hilarious and was obviously NOT written by a chinese cos the pronouciation was all crap! listened to a few ayu songs and we finally knocked-out. woke up in a while to find out we are approaching HK!! touched down on HK ground at 10.21am!

through the boring custom process and by the time we're out of the gates, its 11.08am~ the first thing we spotted was Krispy Kreme!! Hungry and tired, we sat down for donuts and a drink!!

happy at the sight of Krispy Kreme after a tiring flight!

Krispy Kreme~ Krispy Kreme~ Krispy Kreme~

my cinnamon doughnut and kossy's maple glazed donut! as good as heaven!!!!

All the time!!

First taste of heaven!

MY first taste of heaven~

many many taxis outside the airport! it costs HKD300+ to get to Yaumatei!

on the way to check out Asia World Expo! (yes with our luggage and all... i AM hardcore!)

me~ in the pretty Airport Express MTR (all excited to check out Asia World Expo~)

FIRST GLIMPSE OF AYU!!!

kossy with the pretty scenery at Asia World Expo MTR station

let's just say its a very loooooooong MTR station...

yes it IS a sizzling hot summer with ayu~ (*dances around the room "ayu~ ayu~ ayu ayu ayu~)

she's everywhere!!! :D

we went to check out the merchandise queue... or rather.. kossy helped me to check out the merchandise queue.. heh.. thank babe! and it was fricking long!!!!!!!! and the merchandise stall wasn't even set up yet... (as according to kossy) so we dragged our luggage to take the MTR (YES, we took the MTR to our hotel ALL the way in Yaumatei) to our hotel.

We took the MTR to Kowloon (as told by the control station guy) where there is suppose to be a shuttle bus to our hotel... we wondered around Kowloon station and found out later the buses don't go to our hotel... the bus that does only comes in about an hour... we were both too tired and exhausted to wait, so we gave up and took a cab! lucky i printed out the map to our hotel cos the cab driver didn't understand what we were saying at all... arrived at our dodgy-looking hotel and checked in to find ONLY A SUPER-SINGLE BED IN A DOUBLE ROOM! :*(

kossy pretending to be happy on the teeny tiny bed...

look at how much space there is between the door and the bed. maybe 2 meters?

kossy mourning over the size of the bed... and our dodgy-looking hotel

sho small bed... :(

after mourning and ranting and convincing ourselves that the room "isn't that bad", we went out for lunch~

take a nice picture of Hui Lau Shan first... it is just opposite our hotel!!!

my first encounter with the streets of heung kong~

old old buildings of HK

looking for a place to eat was a chore... there were restaurants and cafes everywhere... but they all looked dodgy and... not very clean... (fine.. i'm fussy) we walked and walked and walked all the way from Yaumatei (where our hotel is) to Mongkok (one MTR away). we saw Hung Heung (famous lao po bing), many many familiar and unfamiliar shops, got stuck at a clothes + accessories shop called Maple, bought clothes+accessories, almost starved to death... and finally moved on to continue looking for lunch.. but just before lunch... someone found her chou chou toufu....

kossy & her chou chou toufu...

we finally decided on this cafe for lunch.. it was quite crowded. our first encounter in a hk cafe... the menu was all in traditional chinese (or rather cantonese) and we didn't know what to order at all! ended up with this horrible mixture of curry fishballs and chicken wings with noodles in satay soup base. :x luckily we ordered another prawn wanton noodle...

kossy CANNOT read the menu~

prawn wanton noodle! this was quite nice...

weird fishball + chix wing noodle thingy... LOL

we walked around a bit after lunch and rushed into the first Hui Lau Shan we saw!!! overwhelmed by the variety of desserts.. we didn't know what to order...

Hui Lau Shan menu!

ordered this platter in the end. i wouldn't say its fantastic.. but its NICE. nicer than sg desserts at least... don't understand what sg mango desserts must have mango syrup... look at HK mango desserts!! ALL FRESH AND SWEET MANGO!!!

this was so-so.. i think i ordered the wrong thing... its pomelo with sago and honeydew...

our pretty desserts~

we saw this loooooong queue in front of this shop... i later found out its a Taiwan milk tea shop... the milk tea is NICEEEE! authentic taiwan MILK TEA! seems like they are famous for their 700cc milk tea. HUGE cup. regretted not drinking more while we're there... :( the guy taking our order was very nice! cos we were speaking to him in chinese, he took special note of us since we probably wouldn't understand if he called out the number. so when our tea was ready, he looked at us instead of calling out the receipt number and said something like our order is ready. heh. this shop was at the stretch of road in between Yaumatei and Mongkok MTR station.

our milk tea! we ate up all the "bubbles"

unglam aunties selling the HK street-side food~ lol

after buying out bubble tea, we walked down less than one block and smelled something very nice! fried octopus tentacles! this is goooood! (only when its hot cos we got distracted later on and it turned cold and oily and disgusting...) after a while, we headed back to the hotel to rest up a bit and bath... think we were really quite hardcore... woke up so early to take the plane... check in le still dowan to rest.. still walk walk walk so much. i think we went back to the hotel at about 5pm. which means 4 hours of walking just for lunch!

after freshening up and getting a bit of rest, we made our way to The Peak!

at the downstairs of our hotel (with the background of what seems like jade street) kossy says i look demure here.. will meh..?

ayu Wacoal advert in the MTR station!!! ahh... hong-kongers are so lucky... can see ayu advert everyday on the way to work/school... she is sho pretty... i stopped every time we walked pass any ayu advertisement in MTR stations... lol.

close-up!

waiting for the MTR

cam-whoring on the way waiting for the train to go to The Peak

we alighted at Admiralty (金鐘) station (i think)

my favorite building~

reflection of my nice building

kossy with nice buildings

nicest buildings of the trip!

we walked, climbed up slopes, turned into gardens and corners, and we finally found The Peak Tram! AND THE SUPER LONG QUEUE! :( i think it's becos it was a saturday... as we were both reluctant to spend time queuing up, we decided to leave and come back during one of the weekdays... and off we go to Causeway Bay for shopping~ Upon reaching Causeway Bay, we saw this! 義順牛奶公司 (Yee Shun Milk Company) we later found out that this place is famous for its 双皮炖奶 (loosely translated as "2 skin steamed milk"). we also found a branch near our hotel... anyway, we went in for dinner... ordered a 双皮炖奶 and a 猪扒公仔面加蛋. maybe cos we were both hungry from the walk up the peak tram... the 公仔面 was fan-ta-bu-lous!!! "super kiam" but eat le super shiok!!! the pork chop was nicely seasoned, juicy and succulent (correct spelling mah?)!!! the egg was half cooked, and matched perfectly with the super kiam soup... i think me and kossy shared quite a lot of things when were were there cos there was too much to eat!

Yee Shun Milk Company Menu~

ALL GONE after a few minutes!

good stuff!

shopped around some more and went in to SOGO (so old school!). i still remember when SG had SOGO at city hall... its a pity they closed it... and they are still using the blue and white paper bag!! I was busy looking for my silk pillow case cos sister said the silk pillow case slp le wake up the hair wun fizzy fizzy... but cannot find :( kossy got a NICE billabong wallet though. THANKS to me!!!! cos she was saying she needed to get a wallet and i found it! quite cheap for a billabong wallet... cannot remember how much was it though... and its the last piece! :( but she got it anyway... we wanted to look out for more billabong shops in hk to see if they more , but didn't manage to find any... we went all the way up to the 12th floor (or was it 11th) then headed to the basement... WHERE THE SUPERMARKET IS!! sogo supermarket... FILLED WITH JIPUNESE FOOD!!! we egg-citedly browse through the HUGE collection of japanese drinks and snacks and bought ourselves LOADS of food and drinks... :x

array of jipunese drinks! i found Qoo there too!!! and carried 4 cans back... :x

kossy found her okonomiyai chips~ she said they've been looking for it since their last trip to japan. she bought like... 3 packets... (bring chips go back... all air, waste space.. hahaha) we opened one packet to try in the hotel, it was quite nice.. but i didn't really like it...

many many imported beef~

i also found my favorite milk pudding! (available in meidi-ya i know.. but too inconvinient to go...)

kossy says the juice packaging makes her happy o.O

streets of Causeway Bay~

we refused to give up walking even though our legs were breaking... cos the streets were still filled with people at 10.30pm! the shops in SG normally closes at 9+... so we thought we wld walked till some of the shops closed and there is nothing to see.. but beocs of the crowd.. we continued walking and finally gave up at 11+!

see my super long cuttlefish from sogo!

exhausted after walking for god-knows how many hours!

took the MTR back to the hotel and concuss-ded... Its a looooooooong day tmr! planning to go Lantau Island + Factory outlets + AYUMI HAMASAKI CONCERT!!!
